An exciting and innovative biotechnology company based in Cambridge, requires a Finance Manager.

To support the ongoing growth, and to enable the outsourced finance function to be brought in house, there is a need for a talented and motivated Finance Manager. This new role will report to the Finance Director.

You will take on increasing responsibilities within finance, you will quickly progress to managing the financial accounting process, including processing of invoices (with correct VAT allocation), processing of expenses, tying up invoices to purchase orders, management of the fixed asset register, raising and chasing of sales invoices, bank reconciliations, processing of payment runs using internal controls and online banking. In addition, creation of management accounts (including analysis of prepayments and accruals) entering journals and filing of VAT returns. You will assist with the budgeting and forecasting process, liaising with department heads and preparing tax and audit schedules.

This is an extremely exciting time to be joining the business. The role requires an allrounder who is comfortable getting involved with routine finance function responsibilities as well as ad hoc and unforeseen projects.

Key responsibilities as Finance Manager will include:

  • Preparing the management accounts;
  • Reviewing and improving financial controls;
  • Updating and preparing forecasts and budgets;
  • Processing Invoices, VAT Returns, Accruals & Prepayments;
  • Processing payments and bank reconciliations;
  • Chasing of debtors and liaising with suppliers;
  • Ensure cash flow is appropriate for the organisation’s operations. Cashflow reporting.
  • Work with Xero accounting system.
  • Adhoc project work to assist FD.

Other key attributes that we are looking for include:

  • The ability to fit within the management team.
  • The individual must have can-do and motivated attitude.
  • You will be a qualified by experience or through an accredited financial qualification.
  • You will have enthusiasm and desire to work in a small, rapidly growing environment.
  • Ideally you will have experience of working for a small, fast growing international business.

You will have worked in a similar SME, ideally with an interest in the life sciences sector.

You will be adaptable, agile and curious, with the ability to assist the Finance Director in various wide remits. The role will require good communication skills and a team-player mindset as there is likely to be significant interactions with the whole team from senior to junior levels and external stakeholders.
