Venn Group are working with a Kent based Educational Institution recruiting for an Assistant Financial Accountant.

Hourly Rate: Salary equivalent up to £33,966

Contract Type: 9-month temporary post

Hybrid Working: Yes

The successful postholder will work with other members of the Financial Accounting team to support the production of financial information for month-end and year-end management reporting and the production of indirect taxation returns for the University.

Duties:

  • Support the production of monthly financial information to be used in the production of management reporting and to support in-year forecasting
  • Responsible for the production of transaction analysis, including analysis of prepayments, accruals and receipts in advance
  • Assist the production of the annual financial statements, providing figures for the completion of various notes and accompanying analyses
  • Support the external audit, preparing schedules to support the figures reporting in the financial statements
  • Provide support to the day-to-day management of relationships with bankers and investment brokers on behalf of the University
  • Monitoring balances in accounts on a regular basis to support the maximisation of returns on available resources
  • Produce a weekly analysis of cashflow movements to assist with the production of short-term daily and weekly cashflow forecasting to support management decision making
  • Monitor compliance with VAT regulations in recording all transactions, reviewing the use of tax codes in the finance system, UBW
  • Provide analysis to assist with the production of indirect tax returns, including quarterly VAT returns

Essential Criteria:

  • AAT Qualified or actively studying towards CCAB professional qualification (e.g. ACCA/CIMA), having completed at least foundation level
  • Proven experience in financial or management accounting
  • A good understanding of current accounting policies and standards, including HE/FE SORP, and VAT regulations
  • Computer literate with good working knowledge of computerised accounting systems and desktop applications (particularly excel and word)
  • Excellent and effective communication skills

Desirable Criteria:

  • Familiarity with HE institutions and/or public sector finance
  • Experience of working with the UBW finance system
