About the Role:We are seeking an outstanding and inspirational Head of Biology to lead our successful and well-resourced Biology department. This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious and experienced teacher to take the next step in their career and drive continued excellence in teaching and learning at a vibrant secondary school in Chester.

As Head of Biology, you will play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the subject, promoting high standards, and supporting students to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning, delivery, and evaluation of the Biology curriculum across Key Stages 3 to 5

  • Inspire and support a team of Biology teachers to deliver outstanding lessons and achieve strong student outcomes

  • Monitor and track pupil progress, using data to inform intervention strategies

  • Lead departmental meetings, manage resources, and oversee extracurricular and enrichment opportunities

  • Collaborate with other Science faculty leaders to promote cross-disciplinary learning and a cohesive science curriculum

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Biology or a closely related subject

  • A proven track record of excellent classroom teaching and raising student achievement

  • Experience of curriculum leadership or mentoring within a science department

  • Strong leadership, organisational, and interpersonal skills

  • A commitment to continuous professional development and high expectations for all
