Head of MFL Department

We are inviting applications for the position of Head of Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) Department at our dynamic secondary school in Doncaster. This maternity cover role commences in September 2024 and is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a passion for languages and a commitment to high-quality teaching.

Day to Day of the role:
  • Lead the MFL department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning are maintained.
  • Teach French or Spanish classes to a range of abilities across Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Develop and implement curriculum strategies within the MFL department.
  • Monitor and support the overall progress and development of students within the department.
  • Facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential.
  • Contribute to raising standards of student attainment and to monitor and support student progress.
  • Be accountable for student progress and development within the subject area.
  • Organise and manage resources and the learning environment.

This would be an excellent opportunity for someone who has been looking for a TLR role to see if it suits them and to gain some experience of being a HOD for a fixed period. 

Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • UK Qualified Teacher Status (UKQTS) with a degree in French or Spanish or related subject.
  • Proven experience in teaching French or Spanish at secondary level.
  • Ability to teach and lead across all key stages.
  • Strong understanding of curriculum development and assessment.
  • Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
  • A track record of delivering positive student outcomes.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students and staff alike.
