Principal Electrical Engineer (ATEX) - Contract - Falkirk

Location: Falkirk / Hybrid

This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading engineering business during a period of continued growth as they support the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Renewable Energy and Nuclear sectors. The role support the ongoing development of electrical infrastructure projects on a major brownfield energy plant and will suit engineers who have previous site experience in addition to purely design. The successful person must have ATEX experience.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Undertake design and checking of deliverables according to discipline and area of expertise.
  • Preparation and checking of deliverables including drawings, schedules, datasheets, specifications, (input to control philosophies and narratives if applicable) for LV, MV and HV equipment.
  • Must understand wiring diagrams, control logic diagrams, system descriptions, system calculations, 1-line and 3-line AC drawings, AC & DC schematics, and be able to size equipment and perform cable sizing calculations.
  • The role will require experience of ATEX - BS EN 60078.
  • The role will also involve regular site visits to inspect and report on design specifications and the overall requirements needed to ensure key engineering deliverables.
  • Supporting FAT and SATs.
  • Participation in design review, 3D Model Reviews, Value Engineering, Risk Management workshops,
  • Design and testing of simulation software devices for complete project simulation.
  • Responsible for engineering design and assessment in line with client expectations as well as supporting others within the team.

Key Skills & Knowledge

  • Must be degree qualified, chartered status desired but not essential.
  • Experience of designing electrical equipment, preferably in an energy industry environment.
  • ATEX experience is essential.
  • CompEx 12 is highly desirable but not essential.
  • Previously worked on design projects in the Oil & Gas, Petrochem, or Renewable Energy industries.
  • Experience of electrical equipment and its application in conventional and safety applications.
  • Experience in relevant design standards and protocols.
  • Experience in other major energy such as Energy from Waste or similar will also be highly advantageous.
  • Previous site experience in conjunction with a design background beneficial.
