Location : Manchester

Due to continued growth and expansion plans our client is now seeking an experienced import ocean & air freight coordinator to join a well-established freight forwarding team in Manchester.

They are a dynamic team of freight forwarders organising international import and export shipments by air, sea (LCL and FCL), road, and rail to meet our customers' extensive requirements.

Whilst the role is multi-modal, 85% of the position involves sea freight imports - air freight experience is advantageous but not essential.

Ocean & Air Import Operator Responsibilities:

  • Deep Sea import operations - from start-to-finish
  • Quoting and booking shipments from origin through to final delivery.
  • Using the various tariffs available, or liaising with suppliers and carriers to obtain the best price for the shipment
  • Accurately preparing all necessary documents in a timely manner
  • Forwarding booking instructions to carriers
  • Handling order traces, invoices, and processing pre-alerts from overseas agents
  • Ensuring cargo is only released against correct documentation and receipt of cleared funds
  • Completing customs entries
  • Monitoring the shipment through to delivery, ensuring the job is completed to meet company standards and the customer's expectations
  • Keeping all relevant parties updated throughout
  • Making follow-up and keep-in-touch calls to customers to ensure they're happy with the rates and service we're providing
  • Developing good working relationships with shipping lines, overseas agents, hauliers and our other branches

The role requires:

  • Previous experience in quoting and operations of import ocean freight forwarding is essential
  • Knowledge of airfreight and customs systems would be advantageous, eg: CNS, Destin8, CDS and FCL, but full training will be provided
  • Proficiency in preparing and verifying shipping documents, invoices, and customs declarations
  • Understanding relevant regulations, policies, and procedures and compliance with them
  • Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot any issues that may arise during the shipment process
