SEN Teaching assistant – Special school                

I am recruiting for experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to start in the North Leeds area full time temporary to permanent to start asap.  This role is to work in a special school with a wide range of special educational needs students from Early Years through to KS4. Therefore, it is essential to have relevant experience before applying to this role. Job description and Job Spec:

  • As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work under the direction of the teacher/senior staff, in the classroom.
  • Use affective support for the learners with verbal and non-verbal Autism, understanding their timetables and needs.
  • Encourage learners to interact with others and engage with activities led by the teacher.
  • Understand and support the varying needs of the learners.  
  • Support physical, sensory, communication and learning needs.
  • Must have a minimum of 12 months experience as a SEN support assistant or equivalent.  
  • Experience working as a SEN support assistant with children with SEND, ASD, communication and sensory difficulties.
  • General technical and resource support.
  • General understanding of learners with social, emotional and mental health and special educational needs.
  • Knowledge of the way learners with Autism learn through interventions, PECS or MAKATON.  
  • Must have the ability to differentiate and personalise learning.
  • Ability to respond calmly and use initiative.
  • -Competitive rates of pay from between £450- £475 weekly rate (AWR Compliant)
