The School and Role

This large SEN School in Leeds caters to children 4-19, the school is looking to appoint a passionate member of staff to support children with SEMH aged 11-16 to work in a small KS3-KS4 classroom on a Full-Time basis. Working in this school as part of an established team, the desired SEMH support will be working with pupils with behavioural needs and working alongside the other members of staff to promote educational values whilst working on their individual needs. This Full-Time SEMH Teaching Assistant role is long term and potentially permanent. 

Requirements

The desired SEMH Teaching Support will have;

  • Staff need to be able to follow direction from the teacher and act on their own initiative.
  • Staff need to be able to adapt changing situations, whilst ensuring all pupils are safe and their needs are continuously met.
  • Staff need to be able to work unsupervised
  • Staff need to be able to model socially appropriate behaviours and support the implementation of speech and language and occupational therapy plans.
  • Staff must be incredibly patient, be able to follow and implement advice from professionals even during challenging situations
  • Staff must be able to give students lots of processing time
  • Staff must be able to communicate with colleagues and work dynamically as part of a team
  • Staff must be able to supervise and engage pupils working at early developmental levels.
