Position Overview:

Aspion are seeking a skilled Precision CNC Turner with previous experience in using steadies and turning precision pump shafts up to 4.0m in length. The ideal candidate will also have previous experience with machining exotic metals, including super duplex, duplex, 718, x750, Hastelloy, Monel, etc. This position requires a high level of technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work with precision instruments and tools.

Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate a centre lathe machine to manufacture precision pump shafts, including those up to 4.0m in length.
  • Utilize steadies to support and stabilize long workpieces during the turning process.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions to understand specifications and requirements.
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and machine attachments for each job, considering the unique properties of exotic metals.
  • Align and secure workpieces in the lathe chuck or between centers, ensuring stability and accuracy.
  • Adjust machine settings, such as speed, feed, and depth of cut, to achieve desired results while working with exotic metals.
  • Use precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators, to ensure accuracy and quality of machined parts.
  • Monitor machine operations and make necessary adjustments to maintain performance and quality, particularly when machining challenging materials.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on the lathe machine and perform minor repairs as needed.
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Collaborate with team members, including engineers and supervisors, to troubleshoot issues and improve production processes.
  • Document production activities, including quantities produced, materials used, and time taken, for record-keeping purposes.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and suggest innovative solutions, especially when working with exotic metals.

Requirements

Essential candidate requirements:

  • Must be time served (NVQ 3 or Equivalent)
  • Work from detailed engineering drawings
  • Understand ISO 9001:2015 Quality Systems
  • Previous experience in using steadies and turning precision pump shafts up to 4.0m in length
  • Previous experience with machining of exotic metals (super duplex, duplex, 718, x750, Hastelloy, Monel etc)
  • Experience in a previous or similar position (2 years minimum)
  • Good Planning and Organising skills
  • Good communication Skills with both peers and Management
  • Attention to detail
