We are looking for an experienced CCO - Chief Compliance Officer/Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) to join our client on an initial 6 months contract basis.

This position will be responsible for second line of defence compliance covering applying to all payments and lending activity within Payments UK (APUK) and Capital Service Limited (ACS).

Key job responsibilities

  • Leading of team of regulatory and financial crime specialists, assist the Head of Compliance in ensuring they operate in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements, and company standards, relating to Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Terrorism Financing, Anti Bribery, Criminal Financing and Fraud.
  • Develop strategic relationships with partner teams in Tech, Ops, Product, Business and advise them of significant compliance matters that require their attention or action. Proactively anticipate or help the business plan for changes in the compliance and regulatory environment.
  • Produce relevant MLRO reports. These include monthly management updates on Financial Crime and ongoing monitoring of relevant developments both internally and externally (e.g. new products, risks, regulations etc.).
  • Provide thought leadership and executive challenge on financial crime prevention, acting as the financial crime point of contact for risk assessments relating to the entities, any new products, or current products with a material change.
  • Enhance our oversight mechanisms and metrics for financial crime oversight of the second line compliance team, monitoring the control framework.
  • Advise on Compliance and AML/CTF Policy interpretation and working with the business to resolve breaches and violations of such policies, driving external reporting when required.
  • Oversee and conduct ongoing training and the completion of all necessary regulatory reporting.

Basic qualifications

  • Significant experience of second line compliance in Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Terrorism Financing, Economic Sanctions, and Fraud Risk Management, ideally gained at a financial institution.
  • An excellent understanding of the current Financial Crime Prevention environment and expectations, relevant regulations and legislation.
  • An understanding of performing financial crime risk assessments in line with the associated regulatory requirements and guidance. The capability to assess risk and control, highlight deficiencies and recommend improvements.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with ability to translate complex issues for consumption by technical and non-technical audiences, including senior management and executives.
  • Demonstrated ability to challenge the status-quo and drive for results in ambiguous and fast paced environments.
  • Capability to work independently, exercise sound judgement, problem solve, and continually calibrate priorities with minimal supervision.

Preferred qualifications

  • Payments or e-commerce compliance background
  • Experience working with international teams across multiple time-zones.
  • Professional certification such as ICA, CISI, CAMS, or CRCM
