AKTON Recruitment is working closely with the local authorities and we are looking for a Education Welfare in the Normanton - West Yorkshire area. 3 - 6 months contract.

Education Welfare Officers in assisting with Elective Home Education. The work will involve travelling around the Wakefield District and the postholders will be required to have skills in working with families and young people and able to assess work that is provided by them as suitable. Postholders will need to be able travel frequently around the district.

Candidates will need to be able to use IT systems and have a full understanding and good working practice of data protection and safeguarding.

The postholders would be working within an established team and supporting this educative work.

Experience

  • Experience of working within an educational based setting.
  • Experience in giving guidance, in relation to education welfare service provision to; schools, attendance staff, Headteacher, governors and other multi agency partners.
  • Experience of understanding issues that impact children and families as they relate to irregular school attendance and overall well-being.
  • Substantial experience of working with 'hard to reach' individuals, parents, young people and children, with complex and challenging needs.
  • Experience of managing a complex caseload.
  • Experience in prioritising, developing, planning and delivering a range of tailored interventions to support children, young people and families whilst working within a multi-agency setting and with external organisations.
  • Experience and ability to chair complex multi-agency meetings. The ability to apply solution focused techniques to address positive outcomes for young people and families.
  • Delivering training to a range of participants.
  • Previous experience working in school attendance and/or a social care/early help environment.
  • Experience of developing initiatives or programmes to improve outcomes
  • Experience of supervising or mentoring others for within your own agency or partners e.g. students on placement
  • Experience of using risk and resilience framework.

Qualifications/ Training
Degree in Social Work or a Social Work qualification (DipSW/CQSW), ECDL or equivalent.
