Special NeedsTeaching Assistant
Location: Primary Schools within Rhondda Cynon Taff CF37 - CF45

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the learning and development of pupils with special educational needs (SEN).
  • Assist the class teacher in creating an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.
  • Develop and implement tailored learning activities and interventions.
  • Monitor and report on pupil progress and provide feedback to teachers and parents.
  • Foster a positive, encouraging, and safe learning atmosphere.
  • Work closely with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and other staff to ensure the best outcomes for pupils.
  • Support pupils with personal care needs if required.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 1 years experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a UK primary school, specifically supporting children with special needs.
  • A relevant qualification in education or childcare (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ Level 2/3, or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of the primary school curriculum and strategies for supporting SEN pupils.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children with special needs.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).

Desirable:

  • Experience with specific educational needs such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), or Speech and Language Difficulties.
  • Training in specific SEN support strategies or interventions (e.g., Makaton, PECS, TEACCH).
