Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team, including special education professionals, therapists, and support staff, to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and provide holistic support for each student.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment where students feel valued, understood, and empowered to succeed.
  • Build strong partnerships with parents, carers, and external agencies, and provide regular updates on student progress and achievements.
  • Stay abreast of the latest research and best practices in autism education and incorporate these insights into instructional planning and delivery.

Key Skills and Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and proven experience working with children with autism, preferably within a primary school setting.
  • In-depth understanding of autism spectrum disorders and proficiency in a range of evidence-based interventions and strategies, including Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), TEACCH, and sensory integration techniques.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse learning styles, communication preferences, and sensory needs of autistic students.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and external stakeholders.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards supporting the social-emotional well-being and academic success of autistic children and their families.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective practice, with a willingness to continuously enhance knowledge and skills in autism education.
