Job Title: Plant Manager

Location: Midlands, UK

We are currently working with a leading civil engineering contractor based in the heart of the Midlands who are seeking a dynamic and experienced Plant Manager to oversee their plant operations.

Role Overview:

As the Plant Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient and effective management of the plant operations. You will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance, procurement, deployment, and utilisation of all plant machinery and equipment across the various construction projects throughout the Midlands region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of plant operations, including maintenance, repair, procurement, and deployment.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to optimise plant performance, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies at all times.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers and site supervisors to meet project requirements and deadlines.
  • Conduct regular inspections and assessments of plant machinery to identify maintenance needs and minimise downtime.
  • Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of plant operators and maintenance staff to achieve operational excellence.
  • Evaluate existing processes and procedures, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions to enhance performance and cost-effectiveness.
  • Maintain accurate records of plant usage, maintenance activities, and inventory levels.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely delivery of plant equipment and spare parts.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in plant management, preferably within the civil engineering or construction industry.
  • Strong background in mechanical engineering, with a solid understanding of plant machinery and equipment.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a team.
  • Sound knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to identify inefficiencies and implement solutions.
  • Proven track record of managing budgets and controlling costs.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of PUWER and LOLER requirements
  • Relevant qualifications in mechanical engineering or a related field would be advantageous.
