We are seeking a Commercial Analyst to play a pivotal role in enhancing our clients financial performance and have the opportunity to work alongside an awesome management team. My client is an ambitious but highly stable business with locations across the UK. With a head office in Southampton, they are open to remote workers (UK based), happy to travel to one of their other locations on a monthly basis. Whilst we need someone with a finance background, this role is part of the commercial and sales teams.

The ideal candidate will examine sales revenue, gross margin, supplier performance, and various terms to identify opportunities for improvement. By analysing financial data, including market trends and competitor performance, the Commercial Analyst will collaborate with the leadership team to bolster the financial standing. Experience within the construction or building merchant sectors is considered an advantage but not essential. 

Duties to include:

  • Provide input in budgeting and forecasting for sales and business planning to achieve organisational objectives.
  • Analyse sales and margin reports, suggesting strategies to improve business performance.
  • Looking into the return of investment across numerous factors (eg. marketing).
  • Perform strategic analysis and prepare financial models to support strategic planning activities.
  • Manage the evolution of company terms and authorisation matrix to improve decision-making and sales opportunity conversion while enhancing margin performance.
  • Review terms and rebate requests from the sales team, offering suggestions to improve gross margin.
  • Provide data-backed recommendations aligned with the commercial strategy to improve commercial decision-making.
  • Coordinate with the finance team to streamline efforts to improve the financial performance of the organisation.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of competitor and market conditions to inform strategic decisions.
  • Drive process standardisation in maintaining commercial agreements with suppliers.
  • Analyse marketing and promotional activities to ensure optimal results in line with marketing strategies.
  • Assess sales team performance against commercial frameworks and objectives.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, mathematics, business administration, or economics; CIMA or ACCA
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Commercial, Business, or Finance Analytics.
  • Advanced analytical skills and proficiency in data collection, organisation, and dissemination.
  • Data driven, open minded who loves numbers and sound commercial ability.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present findings effectively.
  • Proficiency with statistical and dataset analytics tools such as Power BI and Excel.
  • Experience within the construction or building merchant sectors is an advantage.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with an innovative approach to business planning.
