The Business:

Seymour John are delighted to have been exclusively retained by Elements Europe to find a Finance Manager. Elements Europe are experiencing extremely fast growth taking the business from £40m turnover in 2023 up to £120m this year and £150m in 2025. They have an order book worth over £500m.

They are a modular building business specialising in high rise construction - think student accommodation, residential, hotels. They are currently building the largest residential development in Europe not too far away in Birmingham. As a modular construction company around 40% of the project value is manufactured at their factory in Telford. Modular building has stronger environmental credentials than traditional construction and is often favoured by institutional investors looking honour ESG commitments.

Formerly entrepreneur owned, a majority stake in the business was bought out by a Korean conglomerate GS E&C with the ability to fund the growth. The business is also committed to putting good values and people at the heart of their cultural development.

Whilst the job is contractually site-based 5 days a week, there is reasonable flexibility given around life as needed.

The Opportunity

From a financial management perspective this business will challenge you. You have rapid growth stretching the businesses resources. You need to understand manufacturing operations and construction projects and help the business in reporting and managing costs against fluctuating project activity.

You’ll join the new Finance Director who starts in early June to drive improvement in all aspects of the finance function:

  • Work closely with FD to understand funding, costs, stock levels, debtors, creditors.
  • Develop accurate, reliable, trusted financial reporting and forecasting (not currently available) and eliminate financial surprises.
  • Improve an/or implement good quality processes and controls.
  • Take a proactive look at the cost base and provide guidance to the business.
  • With the FD, review and build finance team appropriate to the challenges of the business.
  • Support the business in making well-informed decisions.
  • Growth will likely stretch cash resources, even though the Group have been fully supportive to date in providing required investment / working capital. You’ll need to provide reliable cash flow forecasts and give advice to proactively manage cashflow.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and the group reporting pack.
  • Prepare budgets and forecasts.
  • Prepare group statutory accounts and be a key contact in coordinating the year end audit.

Experience and Knowledge required:

  • Preferably a qualified accountant ACCA, CIMA, ACA
  • An experienced Finance Manager or Controller with a strong background in manufacturing (costing) and/or construction projects (project accounting)
  • Someone with a proven track record in improving a finance function.
  • Energy and drive to keep progressing at pace and the mindset to cope with challenges encountered during a rapid scale up.
  • Treasury and Cash management experience including forecasting.
  • Experience in statutory account preparation including audit management.
  • Excellent Excel skills to include pivot tables, v & h looks ups, what if formulas, etc
