Day to Day of the role:
  • Contribute to the corporate objectives and continuous improvement in service delivery.
  • Provide professional advice on planning matters and maintain the highest standards of professional integrity.
  • Manage the Development Management and Enforcement Service, supporting the overall management of Development Services and input into corporate projects.
  • Commission and deliver all aspects of development management and enforcement services, ensuring compliance with legislation and Council policies.
  • Drive consistent decision-making and effective implementation of the Local Plan.
  • Define best practices for service plans, budgets, and monitoring, including staff recruitment and development.
  • Stay informed on best practice, relevant legislation, and current planning issues to maintain and enhance the development management function.
  • Provide input into the preparation of the Plan, supplementary planning guidance, and new residential Design Guidance.
  • Foster strong internal working links and create an environment for innovation and the development of best practice.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in Planning, within a local authority or private sector.
  • Degree level education in a related subject or equivalent relevant experience and knowledge.
  • Strong communication, advocacy, and negotiation skills.
  • Proven project planning, management, and delivery skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and work collaboratively with planning partners.
  • Capacity to multi-task and work to tight deadlines.
