Postdoc Research Associate - Photochemistry

Appointment Type:

Post Doc/Trainee

Job Description:

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Winter laboratory in the Department of Chemistry at Iowa State University is seeking a postdoctoral associate with a background in photochemistry, preferably time-resolved spectroscopy. The successful candidate will help maintain the laser facility and investigate reaction mechanisms of photochemical reactions using femtosecond / nanosecond laser flash photolysis, time-resolved single photon counting, etc.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in Chemistry or related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in photochemistry, preferably involving time-resolved spectroscopy.

  • Experience in routine organic synthesis.

  • Experience in quantum chemical calculations.

Department/Program & College Description:

Research in the Winter lab focuses on the development of new chemical tools for biological and materials applications. Philosophically, we take the view that many problems in biology and materials science are at heart problems in mechanistic physical organic chemistry. Using a joint theoretical/experimental approach, we design and synthesize chemical tools for biological applications, including photoactivatable biomolecules and biological sensors. On the materials science side, we are working on the synthesis of next-generation dynamic plastics that change properties in response to environmental stimuli.
